Smoke Detectors

Most fatal fires occur at night when people are asleep. Often, victims never wake up. Working smoke alarms give you the precious time you need to escape a fire.

According to the Fire Safety Cover Plan, every residence is required to have working smoke alarms which are less than 10 years old on every level of the home. If you are not available to set up an appointment with our Fire Chief, Lee Laframboise, you may download and fill out this form and forward it to Box 911, Shawville Quebec or to the Municipality of Clarendon.

Please ensure that the form is signed and that the expiry date for each smoke alarm is noted.

Fire Prevention

Everyone has a responsibility to keep their families and homes safe from fire. The best ways to ensure fire safety include:

  • prevent fires from starting
  • maintain working smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in your home and outside all sleeping areas
  • plan and practice a home fire escape plan so everyone in the home knows exactly what to do should the smoke alarms sound in an emergency
  • consider installing residential sprinklers when building a new home or doing extensive renovations
